The interns/bloggers

Hi! We are four artisan students who are interning in Iceland for ten whole weeks. Three of us, Marko, Henna and Sirja, are interns at Fab Lab Reykjavik and one of us, Tytti, is an intern at Jör. You can read more about our working places by clicking the names on the bar at the top of the page. None of us had visited Iceland before, so everything is new and sometimes overwhelming for us. On our blog, we are going to tell you about our daily lives at work, but also give you  little hints and advice if you someday want to come to Iceland as an intern or just as a tourist.

Small introductions:

Marko Hietala
Terve! I'm studying ancient and traditional handcrafts in Mynämäki School of Arts and Crafts and I guess the reason why I'm at a Fab Lab now is that I've always had a soft spot for modern technology and a dream to somehow bring these two worlds together. Time will tell whether or not I'll succeed.

Henna Jokinen
Hello! I'm studying to become clothing artisan. I live at Turku at the moment but I'm originally from Renko which currently is part of Hämeenlinna. My hobbies include knitting, reading, crochet and geocaching. I have always been interested in different sewing and needlework techniques and I knit a lot. I'm a fan of late Sir Terry Pratchett. Without him I would not be a intern in FabLab at the moment because I would not be speaking English at all. ;) Before this I had never used Inkscape and had not done any vector graphic at all. But with good mentors and an amazing place like FabLab I have began to see what I could be capable of.

Sirja Valtanen

I'm 28-year-old textile artisan student from Mynämäen Käsi-ja Taideteollisuusopisto. I live in a small town called Mynämäki with my husband, our dog and many many cows. I am a huge geek, a whovian and I tend to spend too much time on the internet. Work-wise my interest lie on finding new ways to do traditional arts and crafts by using modern technology. There's so many possibilities of how to make things easier and more cost effective and yet preserve the unique feel that handmade products have. On my free time i draw, listen to music, read, go walking with my dog and watch a lot of movies. So that's me in a nutshell, (My picture is the one on the lower right corner of our photo.)
